The start of 2017 marked another successful Windstorm Conference in Orlando, FL from January 30 to February 2. Held annually, the Conference is put on by the Windstorm Insurance Network, and it brings together insurance companies, attorneys, independent and public adjusters, engineers, and other vendors who are involved in the Florida claims market.
This year was the 18th Annual Conference during which Tom Diana was pleased to present at a panel held on two days entitled Plumbing Losses: Coverage and Identifying Long-Term Damage. At each presentation, Tom and his fellow panelists discussed the historical development of insurance case law, from inception through to the present day, related to coverage for losses related to pipe breaks and sewer backups. The panel also provided a unique presentation of the emerging scientific testing and analysis aimed at identifying the time period that a plumbing leak has been occurring. Both courses received high marks from those in attendance, and Tom was honored to have been a part of them. For all attendees, Tom stressed the importance of applying the facts of each individual claim to the policy language at issue. As Tom said during both presentations: the policy will set you free!
