Along with 2018, the new year brought another successful Windstorm Conference for the insurance industry.  This year, the conference was held in Orlando, FL from January 15-19. Held annually, the Conference is put on by the Windstorm Insurance Network, and it brings together insurance companies, attorneys, independent and public adjusters, engineers, and other vendors who are involved in the Florida claims market.
This year was the 19th Annual Conference, and the 3rd year in a row that founding partner, Tom Diana, was a speaker.  Specifically, Tom presented a course with fellow attorney, Vanessa Ross, and engineer, Roger Jeffery, entitled Wind vs. Wear & Tear: Understanding the Difference. At each presentation, Tom and his fellow panelists discussed the historical development of insurance case law, from inception through to the present day, related to coverage for losses related to wind related claims. The panel also provided a unique presentation of the emerging forensic investigation tactics including scientific testing and analysis aimed at identifying wind-related damage to structures. Both courses received high marks from those in attendance, and Tom was honored to have been a part of them.
For all attendees, Tom stressed the importance of applying the facts of each individual claim to the policy language at issue. As Tom said during both presentations: the policy will set you free!
